Where to Stay Before and After Your Trek
The night before and after your trek matters more than it might seem — arriving at the trailhead already rested, and having somewhere comfortable to recover afterward, both genuinely affect how the trek itself goes.
Why the night before matters
However you reach Kasese, it is very unlikely to be a short or restful journey. Arriving the evening before your trek starts, rather than attempting to travel and start walking on the same day, gives you a proper night's sleep before several demanding days begin — this is one of the more common planning mistakes we see travellers make when self-organising.
Kasese town
Kasese itself offers a small number of hotels convenient for pre-trek arrival and post-trek recovery, close to transport links and not far from either main trailhead. See our page on Sandton Hotel, Kasese for one specific option.
Foothills lodges
A short distance from Kasese town, closer to the mountain itself, several properties sit in the Rwenzori foothills — see our pages on Hotel Margherita and Equator Snow Lodge.
Community-run options
Ruboni Community Camp, below the Portal Peaks, is community-owned rather than a standard commercial property — see its dedicated page for what that means and why it's worth knowing about regardless of whether you stay there. We can book your nights either side of the trek along with everything else; tell us your preference and budget when you enquire.
