Mount Gessi

Mount Gessi is among the least visited of the Rwenzori's six massifs, commonly cited at around 4,715 metres. It sits away from the main trekked circuits, and reaching it is a genuine expedition undertaking rather than an extension of a standard itinerary.

Why so few people go there

Gessi's position relative to the two main trailheads means it requires additional days and a dedicated approach beyond what either the Central Circuit or the Kilembe Trail covers on their own. It is realistically reached only as part of a full traverse of the range, which is why it appears on our twelve-day all-peaks expedition and nowhere else in our current line-up.It is realistically reached only as part of a full multi-peak expedition; ask us if that is what you have in mind.

Naming

Named for Romolo Gessi, a nineteenth-century Italian explorer and administrator active in the Sudan and Great Lakes region during the same era that produced much of the range's other European naming.

Who this suits

Only trekkers taking on the full twelve-day expedition. We would not recommend Mount Gessi as an isolated objective, given how little independently verified route detail exists for it even among experienced Rwenzori operators.
