Mount Baker, or Kiyanja, is a 4,844 meter tall peak located in the Rwenzori Mountains National Park in Uganda. It’s only 2.8 kilometers away from the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. You can experience trekking this majestic mountain in 5/6 days of your Rwenzori Trek.
It’s actually the third highest mountain in the range and was named after Sir Samuel Baker who, along with his wife, were the first Europeans to see Lake Albert and Murchison Falls during their quest to find the source of the Nile. So get booking, and have an incredible adventure!
You can summit Mount Baker with a few peaks, like Edward (4843 m.), Semper (4794 m), Moore (4623 m.), and Wollaston (4626 m). To get there, you’ll take the south ridge, which starts at the Kitandara Lakes. You’ll keep going up the trail until it levels out, then go past a few ponds to a saddle west of the ridge. You won’t have to step foot on snow or glaciers if you stick to the west of the ridge. There might be a few 4th class moves on the path, though.
