They’ve opened up some brand new trails to the peaks of Rwenzori Mountains, with different trekking packages to go with the historical Ibanda central circuite trail in the Mubuku valley. When you’re on the Kyinyampanika Chimp Trail, you have the chance to explore Rwenzori from the community. There’s some really cool cultural, social and nature-based activities you can do, like day and overnight treks or hill treks reaching up to 2400m above sea level.
You can even get a view of Margarita peak if the day is clear! Plus, there’s a forest walk set up through a community natural forest reserve – you’ll spot small animals like three-horned chameleons, birds, reptiles, and sometimes monkeys and chimps crossing from the park. You can also take a village walk and get guided through local residential areas, with demos to learn the local way of life. You’ll get to see basket weaving, story telling, a traditional healer, a blacksmith making local tools, and a farmer tending to his crops and animals – it’s an awesome way to experience how the locals live and pass on their cultural values.
