Karangura Trail

Karangura Trail

The Karangura trail Kazingo is near Semuliki National Park, though not a great option for summiting the Mountains of the moon. If you take the trail, you’ll get to meander through the bamboo zone with all the tangled dry and fresh bamboo stems. Plus, you might hear the Rwezori Turaco making noise and other bird species. Also, there are two big families of more than 7 black and white colubus monkeys and blue monkeys located near the River Wasa Valley and Kandebe ridge in the mountains. There might even be chimpanzees in the area. As you go down towards Bunbibugyo, you can see the stunning Semuliki National Park and the Ituri forest in DRC.

The trail in the community will take you through the cocoa gardens, which are a major source of income for Bundibugyo. There’s a rest stop for lunch right before the Mabere and Kikyo route from Musandama as you start going downhill to Bundibugyo, located at 36 N 0184384 UTM 0082709 at 2422 m a.s.

The route is going to go through Mihunga- Kihuma- Portal peaks- Bukurungu; Kitholhu- Bulemba- Kyarumba and Kyondo. Public-private partnerships will manage tourism activities along these trails, plus UWA will be setting up the Bukurungo trail from Kinyampanika, Chunyu, Bukurungu, Bujuku west, above Scott Elliot and the peaks, then back to Mihunga gate via Baker, Kurughuta, and Mahoma Lake.
