{"id":6227,"date":"2023-07-02T12:02:19","date_gmt":"2023-07-02T12:02:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rwenzorimountaintrekking.com\/?page_id=6227"},"modified":"2023-07-02T12:25:18","modified_gmt":"2023-07-02T12:25:18","slug":"rwenzori-mountains-national-park-uganda","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rwenzorimountaintrekking.com\/rwenzori-mountains-national-park-uganda\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwenzori Mountains National Park Uganda"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Rwenzori Mountains National Park in Uganda<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Rwenzori Mountains National Park (RMNP), famous for the <a href=\"https:\/\/rwenzorimountaintrekking.com\/\" title=\"\">Rwenzori Hiking<\/a> Experiences is about 995 sq. km, is located in the four districts of Kasese, Kabarole, Ntoroko and Bundibugyo, which are found in western Uganda and borders the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The first forest management plan, written in 1948, prescribed strict protective management in view of the mountain\u2019s role as Uganda\u2019s largest and most valuable water catchment. A second management plan in 1961 continued to emphasize the importance of water catchment protection; however the extraction of traditional forest products such as firewood, bamboo, and specified types of timber were permitted.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/rwenzorimountaintrekking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/10667-Giant-Lobelia-Rwenzori-by-boris-buschardt.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rwenzorimountaintrekking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/10667-Giant-Lobelia-Rwenzori-by-boris-buschardt.jpg 640w, https:\/\/rwenzorimountaintrekking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/10667-Giant-Lobelia-Rwenzori-by-boris-buschardt-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Since the sixties, the mountain increasingly was threatened by the demands of a growing population. Cultivation of steeper land below the protected area boundary continued to cause serious soil erosion. Based on the above issues,&nbsp;National and International organizations and individuals noted and spotlighted the problems faced by the Rwenzori. This led to a Proposal for the Establishment of a National Park in the Rwenzori Mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1991, the Rwenzori Mountains were gazetted as a National Park, affording total protection to all flora and fauna. Management was transferred from the Forest Department to Uganda National Parks, now <a href=\"https:\/\/ugandawildlife.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow sponsored\" title=\"\">Uganda Wildlife Authority<\/a> (UWA) thereby accorded higher conservation status which regulates any form of exploitative use of resources.
